A month-by-month guide to the weather in southern Tenerife — temperatures, sea temperature, rain and wind — plus the best months for beaches, hiking and half-term trips.
Southern Tenerife has one of the most stable climates in Europe. Sitting off the coast of Africa at about 28°N, it gets sun and mild temperatures all year — which is why the island is a year-round destination, not just a summer one. The figures below are typical ranges for the south coast around Costa del Silencio, not the cooler, wetter north (see south vs north Tenerife). Real days vary, so use them as a guide rather than a promise.

Winter in the south is what draws a lot of UK and northern European visitors: while it's cold and dark at home, you get mild, sunny days and temperatures in the low 20s. Evenings cool to the mid-teens, so pack a light layer. The sea is cool, so the villa pool does the heavy lifting. For a full breakdown, read our guide to Tenerife in winter. Christmas and New Year are peak weeks and the villas book up months ahead.
Spring is a sweet spot: warm enough for the pool and the beach, cooler than summer for walking, and generally quieter than Easter week itself. Easter is busy, so book early if it falls in your plans. April and May are good for hiking in the island's mountains, with Teide still sometimes snow-capped in early spring.
June is warm and bright without the full heat of July and August. July and August are hot and dry on the south coast, with highs near 28°C. The Atlantic moderates things, so it feels more comfortable than the Mediterranean in a heatwave, but you'll want shade at midday and high-factor sunscreen. A steady breeze (the trade winds) is common, especially on exposed stretches of coast. School holidays make this the busiest period.

September and October are often the best months for beach holidays. The sea reaches its warmest at roughly 23–24°C, the crowds thin out after August and prices tend to ease. November stays pleasantly mild, with highs still in the low-to-mid 20s, which makes it a popular choice for a late sun break before winter.
Booking around the weather
If your dates are flexible, the shoulder months (May–June and late September–November) often give you the warmest sea with the quietest beaches. Peak weeks — Christmas, Easter and August — sell out first, so reserve as early as you can.
Southern Tenerife is sheltered from the worst of the trade winds, but a breeze is normal on the coast in summer. Occasionally, mostly in late summer or autumn, a hot, dusty wind from the Sahara called the calima pushes temperatures up for a few days and makes the air hazy. It passes, and the air-conditioned bedrooms at Villa de Marcos make it easy to ride out.

Explore Villa de Marcos →For beach weather, September and October are hard to beat: the sea is at its warmest and the heat of high summer has eased. For winter sun, December to March is mild and dry in the south, though the sea is cooler. April–June is a good balance of warm and quiet.
Yes. Southern Tenerife typically sees daytime highs of around 22–24°C in November and 21–22°C in December, with evenings that need a light layer. It's warm enough to sit by the pool in the afternoon, though the sea is cooler.
August is usually the hottest, with daytime highs around 28°C on the south coast and very little rain. The temperature is moderated by the sea, so it's much more comfortable than inland southern Europe.
There isn't a real rainy season in the south. What rain there is falls mostly between November and February and is usually brief. The north of the island is much wetter and greener.
Yes, although the Atlantic is cool at roughly 18–20°C in winter. Many visitors use the pool at their villa and take shorter sea swims. Sheltered southern beaches are the most comfortable.
